What should I do if garlic leaves turn yellow and the tips dry out?
During garlic cultivation, a common and frustrating issue is yellowing leaves with dried tips, which severely compromises the quality of the garlic seedlings and reduces economic returns.

Spring management of garlic is just in season.
As temperatures rise, garlic enters the green‑up and regrowth stage; around the Spring Equinox, it reaches the “rotting‑bulb” phase. Affected by consecutive periods of low temperatures and drought this past winter and spring, garlic growth has been hindered, resulting in poor seedling conditions. Consequently, water and fertilizer management after the onset of spring is especially critical.

Water and Fertilizer Management for Autumn-Planted Garlic
Garlic is a beloved ingredient, prized not only for its distinctive flavor but also for its antibacterial properties that help prevent colds, with regular consumption even offering some cancer‑preventive benefits. In northern regions, it’s often enjoyed raw, while in the south it’s commonly used as a seasoning to enhance the aroma of dishes. In recent years, more and more farmers have recognized garlic’s economic value and begun cultivating it. So, when growing garlic, how should autumn‑planted garlic be top‑dressed? And what are the key practices for managing water and fertilizer? Let’s take a look! How should autumn‑planted garlic be top‑dressed? 1. Seedling‑boosting fertilizer: After the garlic seedlings have emerged uniformly, apply a foliar spray of “Super‑Speed Nitrogen‑Potassium” at 5 liters per mu to promote vigorous growth. Avoid using ammonium carbonate to prevent scorching the young plants; at the same time, supplement with microbial organic fertilizer…

Garlic should be sown at the right time. In most regions, autumn sowing typically occurs around the end of White Dew and the beginning of the Autumn Equinox—late September to early October—when temperatures are about 17°C. The optimal seedling age for overwintering is the 4–6 leaf stage; such seedlings can tolerate temperatures as low as −10°C. From sowing to the 4–6 leaf stage, it takes roughly 40–45 days, after which growth ceases when the daily average temperature falls below 7°C. Therefore, sowing too early increases the risk of frost damage, while sowing too late exposes the crop to high temperatures later in the season, shortening the growing period, reducing yield, and compromising quality. Before planting, garlic cloves should be sun‑dried for 1–2 days.

Fertilization patterns of garlic
Garlic is one of the vegetable crops that require substantial fertilizer and exhibit relatively high tolerance to fertilization. The dynamics of nutrient uptake at different growth stages follow an increasing trend as plant biomass accumulates, with the final 80 days representing the period of greatest nutrient demand.
