Reflections on Reading “The Eternal Living Fire”
R&D Center — Liu Xiaochen
After reading Mr. Zhang Ruimin’s book, “The Eternal Living Flame,” I, as a fertilizer researcher and developer, was profoundly inspired—feeling as though a door had been opened to a new world where managerial innovation and technological advancement converge. This book not only offers an in-depth analysis of Haier Group’s evolution but also presents profound reflections on core issues such as corporate management, the value of talent, customer needs, and continuous innovation, providing invaluable insights for my work.
First and foremost, Mr. Zhang Ruimin repeatedly underscores in his book the principle that “people are everything,” a view with which I deeply resonate. In the field of fertilizer research and development, talent is equally a core resource. Every R&D professional is a wellspring of innovation; their wisdom, enthusiasm, and creativity are the driving forces behind the continuous upgrading and evolution of our products. As Zhang Ruimin puts it, the “human‑centered, single‑unit” management model—by harnessing the initiative of each individual and forging organic connections with customers and the market—can likewise be applied to our R&D efforts. We must align the personal goals of our R&D team members with the company’s overarching objectives, ensuring that everyone recognizes their own value and, in turn, unleashes greater creativity and passion for their work.
Secondly, the book’s assertion that “the customer is the foundation of survival” has deepened my understanding of market demand. In fertilizer research and development, we must not only focus on a product’s technical performance but also gain a thorough grasp of our customers’ needs and expectations. Only by truly putting ourselves in the customer’s shoes can we create products that meet market demands and remain competitive. At the same time, this underscores the importance of maintaining keen market insight, promptly identifying shifts in the marketplace, and providing robust support for the company’s long-term growth.
Moreover, Mr. Zhang Ruimin’s emphasis on management innovation has been profoundly inspiring to me. In the field of fertilizer research and development, management innovation is equally vital. We must continuously refine our R&D processes, enhance efficiency, and strengthen team collaboration to foster knowledge sharing. All of this requires us to adopt cutting-edge management philosophies and methodologies. By reading “The Eternal Living Fire,” I have grown even more determined to pursue breakthroughs in management, with the hope of integrating Haier Group’s management expertise into our R&D efforts and driving the overall advancement of our team.
The book also discusses the integration of technological innovation with managerial innovation, which has given me a more comprehensive understanding of technological advancement. In the field of fertilizer research and development, technological innovation is a key driver of industry progress. However, technological innovation alone is not enough; we must combine it with managerial innovation to create a powerful synergy. Only in this way can we maintain a competitive edge in an increasingly fierce market.
Finally, I would like to say that “The Eternal Living Fire” is not merely a book on business management; it is also a work of profound life wisdom. It has deepened my understanding that, whether in our careers or in our personal lives, we must continually learn and strive to improve. Only by maintaining an open mind and daring to embrace new ideas and perspectives can we journey farther and more steadily into the future.
In short, “Eternal Living Fire” has offered me invaluable insights and reflections. As a fertilizer researcher and developer, I will approach my work with even greater enthusiasm and unwavering conviction, striving to integrate technological innovation with managerial excellence and contributing my efforts to the company’s growth. At the same time, I will continue to learn and improve, endeavoring to become a more accomplished and more valuable individual.
