Progress Meeting for the 2023 Shandong Provincial Key R&D Program (“Science and Technology Innovation Action Plan for Rural Revitalization”) Project: “Integrated Innovation and Demonstration of Key Technologies for High-Quality, High-Yield, Water-Saving, and Fertilizer-Reducing Peanut Production”

On August 9, the project kickoff meeting for the “Integrated Innovation and Demonstration of Key Technologies for High-Quality, High-Yield, Water-Saving, and Fertilizer-Reducing Peanut Production” under the 2023 Shandong Provincial Key R&D Program (Science and Technology Innovation Boost Plan for Rural Revitalization) was held at Shandong Agricultural University Fertilizer Technology Co., Ltd. More than 20 participants attended the meeting, including leaders from the Feicheng City Science and Technology Bureau, members of the project team, and Chen Shigeng and Liu Tongxin from the Agricultural University Fertilizer Technology Expansion Center, as well as Liu Xiaochen from the R&D Center.

In the morning, members of the project team visited the project’s science and technology demonstration base in Ningyang County, Tai’an, to conduct a production survey and provide technical guidance. During the field visit, they observed heavy rainfall in Ningyang County, with waterlogging affecting some plots; in low-lying areas, the root systems of certain peanut plants had already begun to rot. Researcher Wu Zhengfeng and Professor Zhang Kun offered on-site advice to local farmers, addressing the current growth vigor of summer-sown peanuts and the issue of waterlogging.

In the afternoon, Researcher Wu Zhengfeng of the Shandong Peanut Research Institute, the project leader, along with the heads of each sub‑project, presented an update on the research progress achieved in the early stages, the status of key performance indicators, and the plans for the next phase. Project members engaged in in‑depth discussions on critical issues. As the submitting organization, Nongda Fertilizer Co., Ltd. reported on the development, demonstration, and promotion of water‑retaining and controlled‑release fertilizers for peanuts. Finally, the responsible official from the Feicheng Science and Technology Bureau commended the project’s current research achievements and offered guiding recommendations on the establishment of a science and technology demonstration base, the cultivation of local talent, the formulation of new product standards, and the management of project expenditures.

The convening of this progress conference has fostered academic exchange at Nongda Fertilizer Industry and laid a solid foundation for the successful completion of the project.
