On March 14, the unveiling ceremony and symposium for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs’ Key Laboratory on Humic Acids—Rice Research Institute were held in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. Professor Ding Fangjun of Shandong Agricultural University, a doctoral supervisor, executive deputy director of the Ministry’s Key Laboratory on Humic Acid Fertilizers, and deputy general manager of Nongda Fertilizer Group; Zhang Ming, director of the Sales and Marketing Center of Nongda Fertilizer Group; Wang Kun, director of the Information Center; Meng Xiangyu, director of the East China Regional Division; as well as relevant officials from the Yandu District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the District Supply and Marketing Cooperative, and the Qin’nan Town Government, attended the unveiling ceremony.
Professor Liu Fengquan of the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences and doctoral supervisor, along with Professor Du Changwen of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, doctoral supervisor, and researcher at the Nanjing Institute of Soil Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, were invited to attend the ceremony.
The establishment of the Rice Research Institute (Yancheng Station) marks the official launch of a new chapter in which both parties will leverage their respective strengths to achieve complementary advantages and deepen cooperation across the board.
Professor Liu Fengquan of the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences and doctoral supervisor read out the “Notice from the Key Laboratory of Humic Acid Fertilizers of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on the Establishment of the Rice Research Institute (Yancheng Station),” which stated that, in order to accelerate the building of a strong agricultural country and achieve high-quality development in agriculture and rural areas, Yancheng Nongyihui Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. has been entrusted with establishing the Rice Research Institute under the Ministry’s Key Laboratory of Humic Acid Fertilizers. It is hoped that, through close collaboration between the two parties, valuable contributions will be made to the development of the rice industry. Following this, the unveiling ceremony was officially announced as commencing.
Professor Ding Fangjun, Executive Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory for Humic Acid Fertilizers under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Deputy General Manager of Nongda Fertilizer Group, delivered a speech. To promote and support the rapid, high-quality development of agriculture, the Ministry has established key laboratories across the country in various fields; in the fertilizer sector, five such laboratories have been set up, with the key laboratory for humic acid fertilizers located at Nongda Fertilizer Group. To conduct more in-depth research and verify the mechanisms and efficacy of humic acid products under diverse regional conditions, on different crops, and at various growth stages, and to better advance and guide agricultural production, we have, leveraging Yancheng’s unique local resource advantages, established the Rice Research Institute—a key laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture—in Yancheng. This experimental platform not only shoulders the important mission of national agricultural development but also embodies the expectations of farmers. We hope that the Yancheng region will carry out the laboratory’s work effectively, stimulate development in surrounding areas, and ensure that the laboratory truly fulfills its purpose in Yancheng, thereby delivering greater benefits to farmers.
Sun Jialiang, director of the Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, stated that fertilizers are the “food of food,” and ensuring stable prices and adequate supply is a core mission for those in the agricultural supply and marketing sector. Taking this unveiling as a new starting point, Nongyihui Company will further deepen and broaden its cooperation with Shandong Agricultural University Fertilizer Co., Ltd., continue to promote formula‑based fertilization techniques, and contribute to green agricultural development—working to boost crop yields, safeguard soil health, and increase farmers’ incomes.
Following the unveiling ceremony, the leaders and experts proceeded to the Qin’nan Town Government Conference Room for a symposium. Station Director Sun Jialiang provided a detailed overview of rice cultivation in Yancheng. Located along the coast of the Yellow Sea on the North Jiangsu Plain, Yancheng is Jiangsu Province’s largest agricultural city, with 12.6349 million mu of farmland. Benefiting from exceptionally favorable agricultural conditions, it has long been renowned as the “Land of Fish and Rice.” As the principal crop grown in Yancheng, rice plays a pivotal role in the region’s development.
Xu Chuanjun, General Manager of Yancheng Nongyihui Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., stated that creating high yields and profits for farmers is my guiding principle. The remarkable efficacy of Nongda humic acid fertilizer has delivered tangible results, prompting me to vigorously promote it throughout the region and earning widespread acclaim from local growers. With the widespread adoption of humic acid fertilizers and the robust technical support provided by Nongda, significant contributions have been made to boosting rice production and incomes in Yancheng.
Nongda Group has consistently adhered to the development philosophy of “dedicating itself solely to the green and healthy fertilizer industry,” leveraging technology as its core driver and science as the cornerstone to build its competitive edge, while continuously strengthening product innovation and upgrading. The company has become one of China’s largest fertilizer enterprises—boasting the most comprehensive product range, the most advanced technologies, and the highest level of scientific and technological content—and is a key standard‑setter in the humic acid fertilizer sector. Professor Ding Fangjun provided an overview of the Key Laboratory for Humic Acid and Nongda Fertilizer Company. Since 2018, when Nongda Group received approval from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to establish the “Key Laboratory for Humic Acid Fertilizers,” it has conducted extensive research on various humic acid activation methods and application technologies, developing a series of new, green, and highly efficient fertilizer products. Today, we are taking the laboratory a step further by establishing a specialized “Rice Research Institute,” truly translating academic research into practical results on the ground. By integrating the company’s four core technologies with a big‑data service platform, we are developing and producing more efficient rice‑specific fertilizers and more practical cultivation techniques, ensuring that humic acid fertilizers deliver enhanced performance in rice fields and bring greater yields and value to rice farmers.
With the advent of the cloud era, modern agriculture has quietly entered the Internet of Things age, and the broader landscape of smart agriculture is beginning to take shape. Wang Kun, Director of the Information Center at Nongda Fertilizer Group, presented a report on how the company’s big data platform is being applied to rice cultivation. By establishing an integrated data platform, the company can optimize agricultural production, track and analyze dynamic changes throughout the planting and livestock‑raising processes as well as in the circulation of agricultural products. Leveraging data analytics in conjunction with practical experience, it has developed a series of regulatory and management measures that promote efficient, orderly agricultural development.
At the symposium, expert professors engaged in warm, interactive discussions with large-scale farmers from Yancheng, addressing their concerns about cultivation practices, fertilization, and the management of diseases, pests, and weeds. The farmers highly praised the effectiveness of China Agricultural University’s humic acid–based soil amendment in improving soil health and vitality.
Two distinguished professors provided meticulous guidance and offered valuable recommendations on the institute’s development and future plans. Moving forward, the institute will launch free soil‑testing services; conduct trial demonstrations and yield‑estimation promotions of new‑type fertilizers in the Yancheng region; enhance the functionality and accuracy of the agricultural big‑data platform for the Yandu area; and, in response to key challenges in local rice cultivation, develop and produce innovative products while carrying out field efficacy trials. In addition, the institute will organize regular symposiums bringing together industry experts and large‑scale farmers, along with a range of other concrete initiatives, to support high‑quality agricultural development in Yancheng and help this emerging group of large‑scale growers thrive.
