Controlled-release fertilizer refers to a new type of fertilizer that can slow down or regulate the rate of nutrient release. In a broad sense, controlled-release fertilizers encompass two major categories: slow-release fertilizers and controlled-release fertilizers. “Complete mineralization” denotes the extent to which the nutrient release rate of a chemical substance is significantly lower than that of the fertilizer itself, with the nutrient being converted into plant‑available forms only after application to the soil. “Controlled release” means employing various regulatory mechanisms to modulate nutrient release according to a predetermined release profile...

Controlled-release fertilizer refers to a new type of fertilizer that can slow down or regulate the rate of nutrient release. In a broad sense, controlled-release fertilizers encompass two major categories: slow-release fertilizers and controlled-release fertilizers. The “complete‑stone” concept denotes the ratio of the nutrient release rate of a chemical substance to the rate at which those nutrients become available to plants after being applied to the soil. “Controlled release” means employing various regulatory mechanisms to align nutrient release with a predetermined release pattern—both in terms of release rate and timing—with the crop’s nutrient uptake dynamics. Consequently, organic nitrogen compounds that can decompose under biological or chemical action are typically classified as slow-release fertilizers, whereas coated fertilizers that are relatively insensitive to biological and chemical processes are generally referred to as controlled-release fertilizers.

Controlled-release fertilizers represent an advanced form of slow-release fertilizers. They primarily employ coating technologies to regulate nutrient release, achieving safety, long-term effectiveness, and high efficiency—key objectives in the modernization of fertilizer technology. These products are well-suited for mechanized production, particularly for meeting the demand for simultaneous sowing of seeds and fertilizer. By extending the decomposition and release periods through methods such as coating, encapsulation, or the addition of inhibitors, they enhance the utilization rate of fertilizer nutrients, thereby prolonging the fertilizer’s effective period and contributing to increased agricultural yields. They are among the fertilizers prioritized for promotion by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Generally, controlled-release fertilizers can be broadly classified into sulfur-coated (fertilizers), resin-coated, and urease inhibitors. Depending on the production process, they can further be categorized as compound-type, blended-type, and other formulations.

 Controlled-release fertilizer

Currently, in the fertilizer market, Controlled-release fertilizer It is well-received by farmers. During crop growth, unstable environmental and climatic conditions can sometimes cause growth to be either too slow or too rapid. In such cases, we can turn to controlled-release fertilizers. By regulating the rate at which nutrients are released, these fertilizers ensure that nutrient availability aligns with the crop’s growth cycle. Today, we’ll explore the six key characteristics of controlled-release fertilizers.

  1. High fertilizer efficiency: With conventional fertilizers, nutrients are lost through evaporation into the atmosphere, leaching into the soil, and being washed away by surface runoff, leaving less than 30% available for plant uptake. In contrast, Nongli Feng’s peptide‑coated controlled‑release fertilizer ensures that nutrients are delivered precisely where they’re needed, while the outer coating prevents premature release, achieving a nutrient use efficiency of over 80%.

  2. Significant yield increase: The coated formulation controls nutrient release, ensuring a steady and consistent supply of nutrients to the crop, thereby preventing nutrient‑induced growth lag and nutrient competition among plants. Yield gains typically exceed 200 jin per mu.

  3. Saves time and effort, freeing up labor: With Nonglifeng multi‑functional regulating fertilizer, most crops require only a single application per season—and can go their entire lifespan without additional fertilization—saving time and reducing waste.

  4. Remarkable fungicidal and insecticidal effects: The coating material of Nonglifeng multi‑functional regulating fertilizer can be treated with polysulfide compounds to provide fungicidal and insecticidal protection, allowing each application to deliver an additional ten-plus jin of fungicide.

  5. Long-term soil improvement: After nutrients are released, the empty shells retain water and provide moisture‑retention, while also enhancing aeration and moisture retention, thereby loosening soils that have become compacted over time.

  6. Supplementing sulfur for crops: Sulfur is also an essential macronutrient for crop growth; Nongli Feng in… Controlled-release fertilizer After the released empty shell breaks down, it can directly contribute to nutrient release and be absorbed by crops.
