How should microbial inoculants be applied? The optimal time for application is early morning or on overcast days.

  1. Microbial inoculants are typically applied in the early morning or on overcast days. The Bacillus spores contained in these products cannot withstand direct sunlight, as exposure can impair their reproduction and metabolic activities—and may even render them inactive. Therefore, avoid using them during hot, high‑temperature conditions.

  2. Microbial inoculants have relatively stringent requirements for soil conditions; factors such as soil moisture, organic matter content, and pH all influence their efficacy. In general, these microorganisms thrive best in soils with a moisture level of 60%–70%; therefore, immediately after application, the soil should be thoroughly watered. Applying microbial fertilizers in combination with organic fertilizers can significantly increase the organic matter content of the soil.

  3. Microbial inoculants should not be stored for extended periods; purchase only as needed. Before use, store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, avoiding heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Once the package is opened, use the entire contents at once; otherwise, other microorganisms may enter and contaminate the inoculant.

  4. Microbial inoculants should not be used in combination with substances that can kill beneficial microorganisms. Since these inoculants contain a large number of live beneficial bacteria, they must never be mixed with fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, sulfur‑containing fertilizers (such as potassium sulfate), or rice straw ash. The active ingredients in these pesticides and fertilizers can easily inactivate the microorganisms, rendering the inoculant ineffective. If such products must be applied, wait at least 48 hours before using the microbial inoculant.
