In recent years, policies such as “zero growth” in fertilizer use, reducing fertilizer application while boosting efficiency, and substituting organic fertilizers for chemical ones have been rolled out one after another, setting off a transformative wave of “scientific fertilization and green development” in the agricultural inputs sector. Riding this wave of green innovation has emerged a product known as humic acid—so what makes it so remarkable? And is the humic acid you’ve chosen truly authentic? Nongda Fertilizer invites you to find out.
Amid this green‑revolution surge, humic acid has emerged as a key product. But what exactly makes humic acid so remarkable? And is the humic acid you’ve chosen truly authentic? Nongda Fertilizer Industry invites you to find out.
I. What is humic acid?
Huminic acid raw materials and fertilizers are now covered by a national standard, GB/T 38072-2019, which provides a detailed and authoritative definition and scope of huminic acid. Furthermore, the “China High‑Tech Product Catalog 2006,” issued in 2006 by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Administration of Taxation, describes huminic acid as follows: it is a plant growth activator, used as a growth promoter, a fertilizer efficiency enhancer, an adjuvant that boosts pesticide efficacy while reducing toxicity, and a soil conditioner.
II. Classification of Fulvic Acid
Humic acid is classified into mineral-derived humic acid and bio-derived humic acid; although both are referred to as humic acid, they differ significantly.
(1) In terms of origin
Mineral-derived humic acids are sourced from lignite and weathered coal, while bio‑humic acids originate from sucrose, monosodium glutamate, paper‑making effluent, or are produced through fermentation.
(2) In terms of composition
Biomass humic acid lacks the benzene-ring framework characteristic of mineral-derived humic acid and contains fewer active functional groups, whereas the benzene ring structure constitutes the core architecture of humic acid and plays a crucial role.
(3) Applications
Mineral-source humic acid possesses a large pore structure and high cation-exchange capacity, enabling the formation of soil aggregate structures and enhancing fertilizer use efficiency, while remaining non-hygroscopic and thus well-suited for incorporation into fertilizers.
(4) Application Rate
The application rate of mineral-source potassium humate is only one-tenth that of biochemical potassium humate.
II. The functions of mineral-derived humic acid
1. For plant crops
It enhances seed germination rate and vigor, stimulates root growth, increases the activity of metabolic enzymes within plants, strengthens stress tolerance, improves photosynthetic efficiency, and significantly elevates the quality of agricultural products.
2. On the role of fertilizers
Humic acid can control nitrogen release, enhance phosphorus availability, prevent potassium leaching, and activate and chelate micronutrients.
3. Effect on soil
Humic acid can promote the formation of soil aggregate structure, reduce bulk density, increase cation exchange capacity, and regulate soil pH, thereby enhancing the soil’s ability to retain water, nutrients, and heat, as well as improve aeration.
III. What makes the humic acid produced by Nongda Fertilizer so special?
1. The raw materials are of exceptionally high quality.
Sourced from a natural mineral spring at 50°N, this deposit dates back approximately 200 million years, making it relatively young. It is free of heavy metals such as lead and arsenic, ensuring exceptionally high quality.
2. The production process is particularly advanced.
It employs internationally advanced four‑stage activation technology, resulting in a lower molecular weight, more branched chains, and a significant increase in the number of oxygen‑containing functional groups, thereby achieving a higher active content. This technology has been awarded the National Outstanding Invention Patent Award and the Shandong Province Science and Technology Progress Award.
3. Exceptionally high activity
Produced via high‑tower spray drying, it boasts high purity and excellent water solubility; when dissolved, it forms a filamentous texture, yielding a uniform, transparent solution—making it ideally suited for drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, and aerial application.
4. Exceptionally strong resistance to hard water
It exhibits excellent resistance to hard water; in 30°dH hard water, it remains free of flocculation and sedimentation for 24 hours, outperforming other products by more than 50% in terms of extended hard-water tolerance.
5. Exceptional plant growth-promoting functions
It can stimulate root growth, particularly the development of fine root hairs, while enhancing the uptake and utilization efficiency of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. This significantly strengthens the plant’s nutritional status, boosts yield, and improves crop quality.
6. Exceptionally strong environmental resilience
It exhibits strong surface activity and is readily adsorbed by cell membranes. Under stress conditions, it effectively activates the plant’s stress‑response immune system, increases leaf sugar and chlorophyll levels, and promotes growth, thereby enhancing crop stress tolerance.
