Organic vegetables are delicious and highly nutritious. As temperatures drop, cold weather can severely damage greenhouse-grown crops. When extreme cold strikes, you can take the following emergency measures: first, implement multi-layered covering by placing an additional layer of plastic film over the straw mats. Below… Bio-fertilizer manufacturer We’ll now provide the explanation.

As winter sets in, in addition to low temperatures, adverse weather conditions such as strong winds, prolonged overcast skies, and heavy snowfall frequently occur, causing significant damage to vegetable crops. Therefore, it is essential to stay informed by monitoring weather forecasts and promptly implementing preventive measures and post‑disaster recovery efforts to minimize losses caused by these hazardous weather events.

1. During severe cold: Avoid heavy watering. In winter, water temperatures are very low; if, after watering, a cold snap causes cloudy conditions with no sunlight inside the greenhouse and low air temperatures, soil temperatures may fail to recover, leading to root rot, plant death, or root suffocation, as well as the widespread spread of various diseases.

II. During Prolonged Cloudy Weather: When faced with extended overcast conditions, as long as temperatures remain relatively mild, the straw curtain should be lifted. Even brief periods of sunshine will cause the greenhouse temperature to rise. Additionally, hanging reflective screens on the rear wall of the greenhouse can help increase light transmission and raise temperatures on cloudy days.

3. During snowy weather: During the day, there is no need to cover the greenhouse with straw mats; once the snow stops, promptly remove the accumulated snow from the roof. In the afternoon, after covering with the mats, place an additional layer of plastic film over them to enhance insulation.

IV. Post‑Freeze Remediation: First, after greenhouse vegetables have been damaged by frost, do not immediately seal the greenhouse and raise the temperature; instead, allow the internal temperature to increase gradually to prevent rapid temperature spikes that could lead to necrosis of the frozen tissues. Second, promptly prune away any stems, leaves, or fruits that have sustained frost damage to avoid mold growth and subsequent disease development.

V. Emergency Measures for Pest and Disease Control: Common crops affected include tomatoes, celery, cucumbers, and rapeseed. Tomatoes, in particular, are prone to late blight and gray mold, often due to prolonged low temperatures that weaken plant vigor and reduce resistance, making them more susceptible to pests and diseases. Early detection and timely preventive measures are essential.
