Advantages of controlled-release fertilizers compared to conventional fertilizers
As everyone knows, slow-release fertilizers differ from conventional fertilizers. Compared with the latter, they offer advantages in both fertilizer efficacy and application frequency. What exactly are these advantages? Humic acid manufacturer The following three points have been summarized.

First, it enhances fertilizer use efficiency and reduces fertilizer application rates. Thanks to its controlled-release properties, slow-release fertilizer minimizes volatilization and leaching losses, thereby improving overall fertilizer utilization. Experimental data show that controlled-release fertilizers can roughly double fertilizer use efficiency from the conventional 35%, significantly lower nitrogen loss, and cut nitrogen fertilizer application by 30% to 50%.
Second, reducing the number of fertilization applications saves labor. Currently available single‑application fertilizers are predominantly fast‑acting, high‑nitrogen compound fertilizers, which carry the risk of excessive vegetative growth in the seedling stage or nutrient deficiency later in the season. In contrast, controlled‑release fertilizers allow for a pre‑designed release profile that aligns nutrient release with crop uptake throughout the growing season, enabling a single application to meet the crop’s nutritional needs for the entire period.
Third, it can reduce crop diseases and improve the quality of agricultural products. Crop diseases and product quality are closely linked to nitrogen fertilizer application; the use of controlled-release fertilizers can prevent excessive nitrogen uptake by crops, thereby helping to suppress disease incidence and enhance product quality.
It is evident that slow- and controlled-release fertilizers offer advantages over conventional fertilizers in many respects; however, application should still be tailored to the specific needs of each crop.
