Potassium sulfate is a chemically neutral, physically acidic fertilizer that is widely suitable for various soils and crops. It is particularly well-suited for crops sensitive to chlorides; when used as a substitute for potassium chloride, it serves as an excellent source of potassium. Its specific application methods are as follows:
1. It can be used as a base fertilizer. When applying potassium sulfate as a base fertilizer in dryland farming, it must be applied deeply and covered with soil to minimize the fixation of potassium ions into insoluble forms, thereby facilitating root uptake by crops and enhancing fertilizer use efficiency.
2. Use as a topdressing fertilizer. Since potassium has limited mobility in the soil, it should be applied in bands or placed in localized holes within the soil layer where root density is highest to enhance uptake.
3. It can be used as a seed fertilizer and for foliar application. For seed dressing, apply 1.5–2.5 kg per mu; it can also be formulated into a 2%–3% solution for foliar feeding.
It can be said that potassium sulfate compound fertilizer is widely used; it serves as both a base fertilizer and a topdressing, as well as a seed fertilizer and a foliar fertilizer, offering the advantage of multiple applications in one product.
