As everyone knows, our core product is controlled-release fertilizer. Controlled-release fertilizer is a type of chemical fertilizer. In fact, beyond controlled-release fertilizer, there are many other types of chemical fertilizers; the controlled-release fertilizer we’re discussing here is just one among them. Today, Nongda Fertilizer, a manufacturer of bio‑fertilizers, will introduce the various classifications of chemical fertilizers.
Bio-fertilizer manufacturer: What are the classifications of chemical fertilizers?
As everyone knows, our core product is controlled-release fertilizer. In fact, controlled-release fertilizer is just one type of chemical fertilizer; besides it, there are many other varieties. The controlled-release fertilizer we’re discussing here is merely one among them. So today… Biofertilizer manufacturer Nongda Fertilizer Industry will now introduce the various classifications of chemical fertilizers from a chemical perspective.

1. Physiologically acidic fertilizers: In the aqueous solution of chemical fertilizers, forage crops absorb an excessive amount of cations, while the remaining anions combine to form corresponding acids, thereby lowering the pH of the solution. Most ammonium and potassium salts fall into this category.
2. Physiologically alkaline fertilizers. When forage crops assimilate anions more rapidly than cations, the soil solution becomes enriched in cations, leading to the formation of corresponding alkaline compounds and raising the pH of the solution. Calcium nitrate, magnesium nitrate, and similar compounds are examples of alkaline fertilizers.
3. Physiologically neutral fertilizers: These fertilizers have roughly equal rates of anion and cation uptake by forage crops, resulting in a neutral soil solution; examples include potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, and urea. Based on their nutrient composition, chemical fertilizers can be classified into nitrogen fertilizers, phosphate fertilizers, potash fertilizers, compound fertilizers, and micronutrient fertilizers. According to their application, they are further divided into base fertilizers and topdressing fertilizers. Additionally, chemical fertilizers may be categorized as quick‑acting, slow‑release, or long‑acting types, as well as fertilizers for soil application or foliar application.
In fact, in previous articles, we’ve already introduced various types of chemical fertilizers. However, since these fertilizers are classified in different ways, the resulting categories naturally differ as well. Today, we’ll be discussing several specific types of chemical fertilizers; before using them, it’s essential to first understand their properties.
