The Role of Humic Acid in Soil Formation and Fertility

Release Date:

2019-08-02

In recent years, ecological degradation has led to a decline in soil humic acids and a reduction in the soil’s natural purification capacity, resulting in lower crop yields. Consequently, the application of humic acids can help purify the soil environment by adsorbing, immobilizing, or degrading heavy metals and toxic chemicals. When crops are fertilized with humic‑acid‑based products, pest and disease incidence decreases, yields increase, and overall quality improves markedly; more importantly, the content of essential nutrients is significantly enhanced.

When crops are fertilized with humic acid–based products, not only do pest and disease pressures decrease and yields increase, but crop quality also improves markedly; more importantly, the levels of essential nutrients they contain rise substantially.

The role of humic acid in soil formation and fertility

1. Humic acid is an active participant and facilitator in soil formation. It is well known that soil’s inorganic components originate from the weathering of rocks, and that organisms and the products of their life processes play a crucial role in the breakdown of rocks and minerals and in the development of soil; moreover, the contribution of humic substances formed after the death of organisms should not be overlooked.
The Role of Humic Acid in Soil Formation and Fertility
2. Humic acid both promotes and constrains the migration, fixation, and leaching of soil metal ions and trace elements.

Humic acid is a stabilizer of soil structure. Our company has found that in chernozem soils, humic acid forms primary aggregates (microaggregates) through insoluble HA–Ca complexes, and this type of association makes a significant contribution to the stability of soil structure.

3. Humic acids influence the soil’s cation exchange capacity. Cation exchange capacity (CEC) is an important indicator of soil fertility; humic acids act as stabilizers of soil structure and determine the soil’s ability to retain nutrients.

4. The application of humic acid in soil not only enhances soil fertility but also helps ensure a cleaner and safer food chain, enabling humic acid to play an even greater role in agriculture.
