Biological fertilizer manufacturers explain common misconceptions about the use of biological fertilizers.

2019-07-24

Biofertilizers, as a rapidly developing new type of fertilizer, are still not well understood by many farmers. Even though bio‑microbial fertilizers deliver excellent results, their full potential can only be realized when used correctly. The reason why biofertilizers often fail to show noticeable effects is frequently due to misconceptions and improper application methods. The main pitfalls include: 1. For convenience, users often mix biofertilizers with chemical pesticides, which reduces the viable microbial content in the product. Additionally, combining microbial fertilizers with bactericidal agents and allowing the mixture to sit for extended periods can severely compromise microbial activity, leading to the death of some microorganisms. 2. Underestimating the required dosage—using too little—diminishes the effectiveness of the product.

Biofertilizer As a rapidly developing new type of fertilizer, bio‑fertilizers still remain poorly understood by many farmers. Even though they deliver excellent results, their full potential can only be realized when used correctly. The reason why bio‑fertilizers often fail to show noticeable effects is frequently due to misconceptions and improper application methods. The main pitfalls include:
1. For convenience, it is often mixed with chemical pesticides, which reduces its efficacy.
Microbial fertilizers contain live microbial strains; when mixed with bactericidal agents and left for an extended period, their viability is easily compromised, leading to the death of some microorganisms.
2. Underestimating the amount used; insufficient dosage diminishes the effectiveness.
Using microbial fertilizers can yield good results, provided they are applied in adequate amounts.
Soil harbors a vast diversity and abundance of microorganisms. For introduced beneficial strains to establish themselves as dominant populations, they must withstand environmental challenges and compete with the native microbial community. To promote the proliferation of these beneficial microbes, it is necessary to create conditions favorable for their growth—such as ameliorating acidified soils, adjusting soil pH, applying organic fertilizers, enhancing soil physical fertility, and increasing the overall microbial biomass.
3. Improper use and timing
Microbial fertilizers offer flexible and diverse application methods: liquid formulations can be used for seed dressing, seed soaking, foliar spraying, root dipping, and root irrigation, while solid formulations are suitable for seed dressing, root dipping, mixed sowing, and mixed application.
Different application methods can affect efficacy; avoid broadcasting on the soil surface or spraying under high temperatures and intense sunlight. When using as a base fertilizer, applying in furrows, placing in planting holes, or irrigating at the root zone, adopting localized fertilization is conducive to maximizing nutrient efficiency. Mixing with uncomposted livestock and poultry manure may expose the microbial agent to high temperatures during the composting process, which can impact its activity and population; therefore, it is recommended to compost the manure first before blending it with the microbial product.
At present, Microbial fertilizer Microbial fertilizers cannot replace chemical fertilizers, nor can chemical fertilizers replace microbial fertilizers. However, as microbial technology advances to a certain stage, microbial fertilizers may eventually completely supplant chemical fertilizers.
