Are active humic acid fertilizers really that good?

Release Date:

2019-07-19

Humic acid is a macromolecular organic substance widely found in nature, with extensive applications across agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, the petroleum industry, chemical engineering, construction materials, medicine and health, and environmental protection. In particular, with the current emphasis on ecological agriculture, pollution-free farming, green food production, and environmentally friendly practices, humic acid has gained even greater recognition. Active humic acid promotes the formation of soil aggregates, raises soil temperature by 2–3°C, and enhances the soil’s ability to retain water and nutrients, fundamentally addressing issues such as soil desertification and compaction. It also activates nutrients, provides slow-release nitrogen, mobilizes phosphorus, boosts potassium efficiency, and supplies essential micronutrients. Furthermore, active humic acid stimulates root development and promotes…

   Humic acid It is a macromolecular organic substance widely found in nature, extensively used across diverse sectors including agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, petroleum, chemical engineering, construction materials, medicine and health, and environmental protection. In particular, with the growing emphasis on ecological agriculture, pollution-free agricultural production, green foods, and environmentally friendly practices, humic acid has come to be highly regarded.

   Active humic acid It promotes the formation of soil aggregates, raises soil temperature by 2–3°C, enhances the soil’s water‑ and nutrient‑retention capacity, and fundamentally addresses issues such as soil desertification and compaction.

  Active humic acid, bioavailable nutrients, slow-release nitrogen, activated phosphorus, enhanced potassium, and essential micronutrients;

  Active humic acid revitalizes root systems, promoting robust root development and lush, deep foliage.

  Active humic acid exhibits strong stress resistance, enhancing crops’ tolerance to lodging, drought, waterlogging, cold, and disease, while improving quality and increasing yield.

  Applications of Active Humic Acid in Agriculture

  In agriculture, humic acid–based fertilizers formulated with nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and other nutrients—such as ammonium humate, produced by neutralizing humic acid with ammonia—enhance fertilizer efficiency, improve soil quality, stimulate crop growth, and upgrade the quality of agricultural products. Nitro‑humic acid can serve as an acidity‑adjusting agent in rice seedling cultivation, while magnesium humate, zinc humate, and iron‑humate urea each demonstrate significant efficacy in addressing soil magnesium deficiency, corn zinc deficiency, and fruit tree iron deficiency, respectively. Mixing humic acid with herbicides like dichlobenil or atrazine can boost their effectiveness and reduce residual toxicity. Moreover, sodium humate has proven effective in treating apple tree rot disease.

  Applications of Active Humic Acid in Animal Husbandry

  In animal husbandry, sodium humate is used to promote hemostasis in antler bleeding, and a nitro‑humic acid–urea complex serves as an effective feed additive for cattle.

  Industrial Applications of Active Humic Acid

  In the industrial sector, sodium humate is used to adjust ceramic slip; it serves as an anti-scaling agent for low-pressure and locomotive boilers; humic acid ion-exchange resins are employed to treat heavy-metal‑containing wastewater; sulfonated sodium humate is utilized as a water‑reducing admixture in cement; humic acid products are also applied as treatment agents for oilfield drilling muds (see oilfield chemicals); and purified humic acid is used as a cathode expansion agent in lead‑acid batteries.
