As issues such as soil acidification gain wider recognition, more and more growers are placing greater emphasis on rational fertilization, and organic fertilizers are receiving increasing attention. Growers are also looking for a fertilizer that is both quality‑assured and safe to use, while being beneficial and harmless to the soil—namely, liquid humic acid fertilizer. In recent years, this type of liquid fertilizer has been adopted by an expanding number of farmers, who have reaped its benefits. So what exactly are the functions of humic acid? Let’s find out together! According to domestic and international reports, humic acid compounds exhibit certain preventive and control effects against a variety of plant diseases. 1. So what exactly are the functions of humic acid? Let’s find out!
According to domestic and international reports, humic substances exhibit a certain degree of control over a variety of plant diseases.

  1. Control and management of gibberellin in wheat. According to experimental reports by Ye Meide et al., under the same dosage of carbendazim, treatment with humic acid reduced the incidence of diseased spikes by 30% compared with treatment using carbendazim alone, thereby enhancing disease control efficacy.

  2. Control and management of sweet potato diseases. According to the results of disease control for sweet potato black spot obtained by Chang Zengrong et al., root drenching with “sodium humate plus thiophanate‑methyl” was more effective than root drenching with sodium humate alone. The experiments demonstrated that both sodium humate applied alone and its combined application with thiophanate‑methyl exhibited good control efficacy against sweet potato root rot and black spot.

3 . Control and management of peanut leaf spot disease. According to experimental results from Baoding Agricultural School, which tested the combined use of humic acid with carbendazim and with thiophanate‑methyl for controlling peanut leaf spot disease, humic acid significantly enhances the efficacy of both carbendazim and thiophanate‑methyl, thereby reducing pesticide application rates and lowering costs, making it a highly promising adjuvant.

  4. Control and management of cotton wilt and Verticillium wilt. Humic acid The efficacy of salt in controlling cotton wilt and yellow wilt diseases, as well as its synergistic effects. Experimental results indicate that the three application methods—seed treatment, root irrigation, and foliar spraying—all exhibit significant control over cotton wilt and yellow wilt. Moreover, as the dosage or frequency of application increases, the degree of disease suppression likewise improves.
Humic acid enhances crop disease resistance.
For foliar application, use a 1,500‑fold dilution, spraying every 10–15 days for a total of three applications. For soil drenching, apply a 2,000‑fold solution of humic acid every 10–15 days, with two applications being optimal. Seed treatment is most effective at a rate of 150 grams per mu. Based on two years of field trials, soil drenching and seed treatment both outperformed foliar sprays in disease control; however, soil drenching is difficult to implement, whereas seed treatment is the most labor‑ and time‑efficient method and thus easier to scale up.

  5. Control and prevention of apple rot disease. According to research conducted at an agricultural school in the Hengshui region, before bud break in mid-to-late February, scrape away apple canker lesions and apply a 50‑fold dilution of a biochemical humic acid formulation to protect the wounds; reapply once after 30–40 days. Survey results indicate that treated lesions generally heal completely, with a very low recurrence rate. Using humic acid in the same manner to control apple canker also yields equally good results.

  6. Prevention and Control of Iron-Deficiency Chlorosis In trials conducted on hibiscus, apple, pear, tomato, and other crops affected by chlorosis, ferrous fulvate has proven to be an ideal agent for controlling iron-deficiency chlorosis. It not only outperforms ferrous sulfate and organic iron chelates but also offers lower costs, enhanced safety, and a reduced risk of phytotoxicity, while simultaneously improving product quality and grade.

When used in combination with other inorganic fertilizers—such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium—humic acid can fix nitrogen, solubilize phosphorus, and release potassium slowly, facilitating the conversion of active nutrients and enabling crops to absorb and utilize them more rapidly, thereby boosting the utilization rate of these nutrients to over 80%.
