What is active humic acid, and what are its benefits?

Active humic acid is distinguished from inactive humic acid. Simply put, active humic acid refers to humic acid that retains chemical reactivity. Many fruit trees experience declining vigor and nutrient deficiencies after several years of harvest; if water and fertilizer management is inadequate at this stage, both the root systems and overall tree health can suffer. Even when fertilizer application is properly maintained, slow results and only marginal yield increases may still occur. So how can we boost fruit tree productivity? What is active humic acid? Active humic acid fertilizer is produced by incorporating a measured amount of activated humic acid into compound fertilizer raw materials through a specialized process, where it forms complexes (chelates) with various ions present in the fertilizer.

Active humic acid This is in contrast to non‑active humic acid. Simply put, active humic acid refers to humic acid that retains chemical reactivity. Many fruit trees, after several years of harvest, often experience declining vigor and nutrient deficiencies; if water and fertilizer management is inadequate at this stage, both the root systems and overall tree health can suffer. Even when fertilizer application is properly maintained, slow results and only marginal yield increases may still occur. So, how can we effectively boost fruit tree productivity?
  What is active humic acid?
Active humic acid fertilizer It involves incorporating a specified amount of activated humic acid into compound fertilizer raw materials through a specialized process, where it forms complexes (chelates) with various ions in the fertilizer, resulting in a composite formulation. This product represents an organic synergy between microorganisms and high‑quality humic acid, exhibiting high biological activity and pronounced efficacy. With its advantages of high nutrient content, strong bioactivity, complete water solubility, and rich nutritional profile, it fills a critical gap in the domestic market for humic‑acid‑based organic fertilizers.
A common application of active humic acid is to formulate it with nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, or micronutrients into high‑end flush fertilizers and foliar sprays, or to use it directly after dissolving in water.
Five Major Benefits of Active Humic Acid
  1. Loosening the soil to nourish it, and conserving water and nutrients
Active humic acid can stimulate beneficial soil microorganisms, promote the formation of soil aggregates, loosen the soil, enhance soil warmth and moisture retention, improve aeration and nutrient conservation, and fundamentally address soil acidification, salinization, and compaction, thereby providing an optimal growing environment for crops while simultaneously improving soil health.
  2. Slow-release, long-lasting, and stable
Active humic acid, much like a viscous gel or a sponge, adsorbs fertilizers, preventing nutrient loss and ensuring the soil retains its fertility. It provides slow‑release nitrogen, activates phosphorus, enhances the efficacy of potassium, and supplies essential micronutrients; it boosts nutrient use efficiency, delivers long‑lasting fertilizer effects without leaching, and balances nutrient retention with sustained supply.
  3. Well-developed root system, robust roots, and compact seedlings
Active humic acid is a growth regulator that promotes root development, resulting in longer taproots and more fibrous roots, robust root systems, and vigorous plant growth. This enhances the crop’s resistance to lodging, drought, waterlogging, diseases, and cold stress, while fostering overall healthy and vigorous growth.
  4. Thick, large leaves with a deep green color
Active humic acid promotes chlorophyll synthesis; chlorophyll, through photosynthesis, produces nutrients. The more chlorophyll a crop synthesizes, the more nutrients it generates, resulting in thicker, darker green leaves and vigorous, rapid growth.
  5. Increase production and improve quality
Active humic acid promotes robust, well‑balanced crop growth, resulting in plump, high‑quality grains with a high 1,000‑grain weight and increased yields. For fruit trees, it leads to larger, more uniform fruits with attractive shapes, excellent coloration, superior taste, appealing market appearance, and a higher commercial yield. In vegetables, it enhances freshness and tenderness, boosts vitamin content, improves product quality, and increases overall yield.
What is the difference between active humic acid and farmyard manure?
Farmyard manure must be fully composted before it can be applied to the soil, and it requires a prolonged period of transformation to ultimately convert into humic acids that crops can absorb. In contrast, humic acids directly supply crops with essential nutrients, making them easier for plants to uptake, more efficiently utilized, and delivering faster results.
