Have you implemented the “one spray, three protections” strategy for wheat?

Release Date:

2019-05-07

With the arrival of Li Xia, marking the beginning of summer, the weather is transitioning from mild to hot, and wheat growth is gradually entering its mid-to-late stages. At present, in many regions, wheat is generally developing well; however, as rainfall increases, diseases and pests such as Fusarium head blight, powdery mildew, stem base rot, aphids, and hot, dry winds are also entering their peak incidence period. As the saying goes, “One bout of wheat disease can leave farmers working in vain.” Therefore, farmers who have not yet carried out the “one spray, three protections” treatment should promptly complete this supplementary practice before outbreaks occur, effectively guarding against wheat diseases, insect infestations, and hot, dry winds, with the aim of achieving high yields and increased income. The “one spray, three protections” approach for wheat has been implemented for many years, and its effectiveness has been widely recognized.

With the arrival of Li Xia, marking the official start of summer, temperatures are shifting from mild to hot, and wheat is gradually entering its mid-to-late growth stages. At present, in many regions, wheat crops are generally in good condition; however, as rainfall increases, diseases and pests such as Fusarium head blight, powdery mildew, stem base rot, aphids, and hot, dry winds are also entering their peak incidence period. As the saying goes, “One bout of wheat disease can leave farmers working in vain.” Therefore, farmers who have not yet carried out the “one spray, three protections” treatment should promptly complete this supplementary practice before outbreaks occur, safeguarding against wheat diseases, insect pests, and hot, dry winds, with the aim of achieving high yields and increased incomes.

The “one spray, three protections” approach for wheat has been implemented for many years, and its effectiveness has been widely recognized by farmers. By applying a single spray, it can control pests and diseases, guard against hot, dry winds, and prevent lodging, thereby increasing grain weight—hence the common term “one spray, three protections.” To achieve these benefits, the formulation used in this practice involves mixing insecticides, fungicides, and foliar fertilizers before application.

“Spray-and-protect” measures are typically applied promptly at the wheat heading stage or after flowering; recommended pesticide applications are as follows:

(1) 60 grams of 30% tebuconazole–fomesafen wettable powder + 30 milliliters of 7.5% chlorfluazuron–imidacloprid suspension concentrate + humic acid‑containing water‑soluble fertilizer Kurosawa Yutaka 50 grams

(2) 30 mL of 12.5% cyproconazole emulsifiable concentrate + 40 mL of 5% acetamiprid emulsifiable concentrate + 40 mL of 4.5% lambda‑cyhalothrin emulsifiable concentrate + foliar fertilizer Golden Dew 50ml

(3) 15 g of 43% tebuconazole suspension concentrate + 15 g of 22% chlorpyrifos‑thiamethoxam suspension concentrate + humic acid‑based water‑soluble fertilizer ( Kurosawa Yutaka ) 50 grams

(4) 40 grams of 10% benzo·dodecylamine wettable powder + 30 grams of 7.5% chlorfluazuron·imidacloprid suspension concentrate + humic acid‑containing water‑soluble fertilizer ( Kurosawa Yutaka ) 50 grams, primarily used for the control and prevention of aphids, Fusarium head blight, and hot, dry winds.

(5) 20 grams of 10% imidacloprid wettable powder, plus 80 milliliters of 2.5% lambda‑cyhalothrin emulsifiable concentrate, plus 25 grams of 45% tebuconazole + prothioconazole, mixed with Nongda foliar fertilizer. Golden Dew 50 grams plus 8 milliliters of brassinolide. Primarily used for the control and prevention of aphids, fusarium head blight, and powdery mildew, and also effective against wheat blossom midge, rust, leaf blight, and hot, dry winds.

(6) Mix 20 g of 10% imidacloprid wettable powder, 80 ml of 4.5% lambda‑cyhalothrin emulsifiable concentrate, 80 g of 50% carbendazim wettable powder, 100 g of 98% potassium dihydrogen phosphate, and 8 ml of brassinolide. This formulation is primarily used to control aphids and Fusarium head blight, while also providing control of cereal leafhoppers, powdery mildew, leaf blight, rust, and hot, dry winds.

The above formulation is a general guideline; the specific recipe may be adjusted as needed based on the wheat field’s growth stage and the incidence of diseases and pests.

Specific usage: According to the aforementioned formulation, thoroughly mix the formulation and dilute it with 50 kg of water before applying it as a uniform spray.

Precautions: If rain occurs within 3 to 6 hours after application, a follow-up spray should be carried out promptly. In addition, carefully read the instructions on the labels of pesticides and foliar fertilizers, strictly adhere to the recommended dosages, and pay close attention to timing and application procedures to prevent phytotoxicity, fertilizer injury, and poisoning.
