On December 25, 2011, the project “Research on Process Technology and New Product Development of Sulfur-Resin Dual-Membrane Controlled-Release Fertilizer,” jointly led by our company and Shandong Agricultural University, passed the evaluation organized by the Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology. Following the presentation by the research team, the appraisal committee concluded that certain scientific and technological achievements of this project have reached an internationally leading level.

Speech by Chairman and General Manager Ma Xuewen
Our company’s controlled‑release fertilizer project is supported by two major initiatives: a technology transfer program funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and a key independent innovation project of Shandong Province. Addressing current challenges—such as the poor abrasion resistance and unstable release performance of sulfur‑coated urea, as well as the high cost and complex production processes of resin‑coated controlled‑release fertilizers—the project has innovatively developed a dual‑membrane controlled‑release fertilizer production process based on sulfur and resin. A 100,000‑ton‑per‑year production line for this dual‑membrane fertilizer has been established, integrating both the dual‑membrane technology and crop‑specific formulation techniques, thereby achieving an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of blended controlled‑release fertilizers tailored for specific crops.
Since 2006, the company has established a dedicated R&D team. Over six years, this project developed a comprehensive system of coating‑material technologies and process flows tailored for slow‑release and controlled‑release fertilizers, and designed specialized spraying equipment and processes suitable for sulfur‑coated slow‑release fertilizers. In addition, based on crop types, soil conditions, and regional characteristics, the team formulated 21 crop‑specific controlled‑release fertilizer formulations. The newly developed crop‑specific controlled‑release fertilizers have been applied across more than 30 million mu of farmland. Multi‑province field trials and demonstration projects have demonstrated that, at comparable input costs, these products significantly enhance fertilizer use efficiency and deliver substantial yield increases compared with conventional fertilizers, yielding notable economic, social, and ecological benefits.
The expert panel concluded that the research topic is well‑chosen, the technical approach is cutting‑edge, and the data are comprehensive and reliable. Overall, the project is at an internationally advanced level, and its outcomes hold significant implications for advancing the development of the controlled‑release fertilizer industry in China.
