In spring, when flower buds begin to swell, flowers bloom, and leaves emerge, peach tree management should prioritize applying pre-bud fertilizer and post-flowering fertilizer. These stages require flexible timing and timely application.
From bud break in spring through flowering, leaf emergence, and finally fruit set and ripening, peach trees consume substantial amounts of nutrients. It is advisable to apply ample well‑decomposed organic fertilizers, such as composted manure, which help improve soil structure, enhance the tree’s resistance to disease, and reduce the incidence of pests and illnesses. Most importantly, these organic amendments boost both the quality and sweetness of the peaches. Therefore, whether for base application or topdressing, prioritize the use of organic fertilizers.

Furthermore, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are also extremely important. While applying organic fertilizers, it is essential to supplement with N‑P‑K‑containing fertilizers as well; these provide relatively rapid nutrient release and meet the needs of shoot and leaf growth, root development, and fruiting. Proper application of N‑P‑K not only helps restore tree vigor but also strengthens the overall plant structure. When using N‑P‑K fertilizers, one must consider not only the specific requirements at each growth stage but also the peach tree’s relative demand for each nutrient. Experience has shown that, for producing high‑quality, high‑yield peaches, potassium fertilizer plays the most critical role; therefore, the proportion of potassium fertilizer should be appropriately increased at the right time.
Of course, it’s even more important to prioritize the use of micronutrients such as calcium and magnesium. To ensure robust tree growth and enhance fruit quality, foliar fertilization is also indispensable.
In spring, when flower buds begin to swell, flowers bloom, and leaves emerge, peach tree management should prioritize applying pre-bud fertilizer and post-flowering fertilizer. These stages require flexible timing and timely application.

Pre‑sprouting fertilizer should be applied about 20 days before bud break. At this stage, you can use a high‑nitrogen compound fertilizer, such as humic acid fertilizer with an N‑P‑K ratio of 22‑10‑10, or a blend of humic acid fertilizer (N‑P‑K: 18‑15‑12) combined with a sulfur‑based microbial formulation. Pure nitrogen fertilizers are not recommended. Adding a balanced dose of phosphorus and potassium at this time can enhance flower quality and improve the cold resistance of both the tree and the flower buds, thereby providing some protection against late spring frosts.

After flowering, promptly apply a fertilizer high in nitrogen, with a small addition of phosphorus and potassium for added benefit. Also, foliar‑spray with products like “Huangjinlu” or “Heizefeng” to replenish the nutrients depleted by the peach tree, reduce flower and fruit drop, promote vigorous shoot and leaf growth, and enhance fruit quality.
