Nongda Fertilizer Industry has established a public‑service platform for using fertilizers effectively and appropriately, acquiring technical expertise, and benchmarking performance.

On March 27, accompanied by lively and spirited gongs and drums, the “Nongda Fertilizer Cup” 2016 Shandong Grain King Competition was officially launched in Feicheng, Tai’an. This year’s competition is guided by the Shandong Provincial Department of Agriculture and jointly hosted by Shandong Agricultural University and Shandong Radio and Television Station, with exclusive sponsorship from Shandong Nongda Fertilizer Technology Co., Ltd.

Compete for the Grain King and win big prizes.

Shandong is a major grain-producing province, with 100 million mu of arable land dedicated to grain cultivation. In 2015, its total grain output reached 94.25 billion jin, marking the thirteenth consecutive year of increased production and making it one of the few provinces to maintain rising yields for thirteen years in a row. In light of the diverse ecological conditions and local realities across Shandong, the competition’s organizing committee has divided the province into six major regional zones—Western Shandong, Southern Shandong, Southwest Shandong, Northern Shandong, Central Shandong, and Eastern Shandong—covering the main and high-yield grain-producing areas in 17 cities and more than 130 counties (county-level cities and districts).

This Grain King Competition is aimed at boosting grain production, with the title of “Corn High-Yield Champion” up for grabs and a generous prize pool. The overall champion will receive a cash award of 99,999 yuan, while five regional champions and twelve winners of the Merit Award will also be recognized. Each regional champion will be awarded 19,999 yuan, and every Merit Award winner will receive two tons of Nongda fertilizer.

A reward in name, but a public good in reality.

Since its inception in 2009, the “Nongda Fertilizer Cup” Grain King Competition has reached its sixth edition as of today’s launch ceremony. This is a public‑interest initiative that honors and rewards outstanding grain producers, while encouraging and assisting more agricultural practitioners to enhance their farming technologies and boost the economic returns of grain cultivation. To this end, the competition’s organizing committee has established an Expert Advisory Panel and enlisted the support of the State Key Laboratory of Crop Biology and the National Engineering Laboratory for Efficient Utilization of Soil and Fertilizer Resources.

In his address, General Manager Ma Xuewen pointed out that the “Nongda Fertilizer Cup” Grain King Competition is a large-scale, meticulously organized series of events designed by Nongda Fertilizer to boost agricultural productivity, increase farmers’ incomes, and promote green agriculture. With an investment of 50 million yuan, Nongda Fertilizer has launched the competition in Shandong, Henan, and Hebei, achieving positive results. He expressed the hope that all skilled farmers and large-scale growers will learn from the champion Grain King, adopt scientific farming practices, cultivate high‑yielding fields, showcase their unique expertise, and strive to become “Grain Kings” themselves.
