Nongda Fertilizer Industry is actively strengthening its industry–university–research collaboration with Shandong Agricultural University.

Recently, the Shandong Provincial Development and Reform Commission received the “Reply from the General Office of the National Development and Reform Commission regarding the National Engineering Laboratory Project for the Efficient Utilization of Soil and Fertilizer Resources” (NDRC General Office High-Tech [2011] No. 1997). The National Engineering Laboratory Project for the Efficient Utilization of Soil and Fertilizer Resources—of which our company is a participant and Shandong Agricultural University serves as the project entity—has been approved.

The reply letter sets forth clear requirements regarding the project’s construction tasks, objectives, and other key issues. It specifies that the project should address pressing challenges such as imbalances in fertilizer resource allocation and low fertilizer use efficiency by establishing a technology‑development platform centered on fertilizer innovation. The project will conduct research in related areas, including the development of novel fertilizers, soil organic matter enhancement, precision nutrient management, and remediation of degraded soils. Over the next three years, it aims to create more than ten new types of fertilizers—such as slow‑release and controlled‑release fertilizers and bio‑organic fertilizers—and achieve breakthroughs in over ten critical technologies for soil organic matter improvement and the treatment of degraded soils. Furthermore, the project will promote the industrialization and widespread application of these innovative fertilizer‑development technologies, thereby providing essential support for ensuring high and stable grain yields. The total investment for this laboratory project amounts to RMB 64.09 million, of which the central government has allocated RMB 15 million, primarily for the construction of relevant R&D facilities, while the provincial Development and Reform Commission has provided corresponding matching funds.

This laboratory project is jointly established by leading research institutions and enterprises, with Shandong Agricultural University taking the lead. As one of the builders of the National Engineering Laboratory for the Efficient Utilization of Soil and Fertilizer Resources, our company will refine and enhance the research framework for slow- and controlled-release fertilizers and multifunctional foliar fertilizers. We will conduct R&D and build supporting platforms for innovative fertilizer types such as slow- and controlled-release fertilizers and water-soluble fertilizers, while also carrying out large-scale demonstrations and widespread promotion, thereby providing robust technical support to bolster the nation’s capacity for increased grain production and to advance sustainable agricultural development.
