Nongda Fertilizer boasts a high level of technical expertise.

On March 9, the “Research and Development of Production Technology for High-Content Granular Potassium Fertilizer” project of Nongda Fertilizer Co., Ltd. was approved as one of the first batch of Shandong Province’s technological innovation projects.

China is a major consumer of fertilizers. With the continuous advancement of BB fertilizer technology and mechanized application methods, demand for high-concentration granular potassium fertilizers has been steadily increasing. Currently, domestic market demand stands at 800,000 to 1 million tons, with the vast majority met through imports, requiring substantial foreign exchange outlays. Moreover, both domestic and international manufacturers of granular potassium fertilizers currently rely on extrusion granulation, producing irregular, flaky particles with sharp edges. Such irregularly shaped granules are ill-suited for mechanized application and pose challenges as raw material for BB fertilizers; when used in this capacity, they tend to segregate and stratify, leading to uneven nutrient distribution and reduced efficacy. Additionally, these granules can clog application equipment, further diminishing nutrient-use efficiency.

This project has addressed the technical challenges associated with producing high-concentration granular potassium fertilizer, developing a complete production process and a suite of supporting key technologies. It has reduced production costs, improved nutrient-use efficiency, and lowered farmers’ input expenses, thereby holding significant and far-reaching implications for the development of China’s fertilizer industry. The project also delivers substantial social benefits and is fully aligned with China’s industrial policies.

In 2006, the company established a municipal-level enterprise technology center. Since its inception, the R&D team led by Deputy General Manager Ding Fangjun has undertaken more than 20 projects, obtained and commercialized seven national patents. Among these, one project received funding from the Ministry of Science and Technology’s National Agricultural Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Program; one was designated as a Shandong Province Torch Program project; one was listed as a key science and technology innovation project in Shandong Province; and one was selected for Shandong Province’s Major Special Project on the Commercialization of Independent Innovation Achievements.

In its future endeavors, the Technology Center will continue to press forward, consistently submitting project proposals and developing new products to generate greater value for the company. We firmly believe that, under the leadership of General Manager Ma and the company’s senior management, Nongda Fertilizer Industry will undergo a third transformation and achieve a new leap forward, ensuring an even brighter and stronger tomorrow.
