Year-Round Fertilization Plan for Grapes
Release Date:
2019-02-06
Base fertilizer application: Apply immediately after harvest; if not applied promptly, it may also be applied during the grapevine’s dormant period. Functions: Strengthen tree vigor, promote the growth of winter buds and flower bud differentiation in autumn, effectively reduce the number of male shoots the following year, and ensure fruit set and fruit quality in the second year. Supplementing with secondary and micronutrients can help prevent premature decline in tree vigor and reduce the occurrence of uneven fruit size in the subsequent season. Application method: Deep‑trench application. Fertilizer selection: ① For high‑yield orchards: 3,000–4,000 kg of well‑decomposed organic fertilizer + 100 kg of phosphate fertilizer + 30 kg of balanced compound fertilizer; ② For low‑yield orchards: 2,000–3,000 kg of well‑decomposed organic fertilizer + 80 kg of phosphate fertilizer + 20 kg of compound fertilizer; ③ For deficient…
Base fertilizer
Timing: Apply immediately after harvest; if not applied promptly, it may also be applied during the grapevine’s dormant period.
Function: Enhances tree vigor, promotes the growth of winter buds and flower bud differentiation after autumn, effectively reduces the number of male shoots in the following year, and ensures fruit set and fruit quality the next year; supplementation with secondary and micronutrients can effectively mitigate premature decline in tree vigor and the occurrence of uneven fruit size in the second year.
Method: Deep tillage with trench application
Fertilizer recommendations: ① For high-yield orchards, apply 3,000–4,000 kg of well‑decomposed organic fertilizer, 100 kg of phosphate fertilizer, and 30 kg of balanced compound fertilizer; ② For low‑yield orchards, apply 2,000–3,000 kg of well‑decomposed organic fertilizer, 80 kg of phosphate fertilizer, and 20 kg of compound fertilizer; ③ For boron‑deficient orchards, add 0.5–1.0 kg of borax per mu; for saline‑alkali soils, be sure to supplement with iron fertilizer, and calcium, magnesium, and zinc can also be applied simultaneously.
Precautions: ① Organic fertilizers must be fully composted; ② The trench depth should be appropriate—too shallow or too deep both hinder root absorption; ③ Avoid concentrating the fertilizer application in one spot; and strictly limit the amount of roots removed to no more than one-third of the total root mass.
Bud-promoting fertilizer
Timing: In regions where vines are winter‑buried, bud‑promoting fertilizer can be applied immediately after the vines are uncovered and trained onto the trellis; in areas without winter burial, it should be applied 10–15 days before spring bud break.
Function: Rapidly replenishes nutrients and promotes uniform bud break.
Method: shallow trench application or foliar spray
Fertilizer selection: 10 kg of high-nitrogen compound fertilizer or water-soluble fertilizer, plus a 300-fold dilution of Haijingling bio-stimulant for root application.
Precautions: ① In areas prone to late spring frosts, apply bud‑promoting fertilizer carefully to prevent frost damage; ② For grape varieties with vigorous growth or low fruit‑set rates, bud‑promoting fertilizer may be omitted.
Pre-flowering fertilizer
Period: 10–15 days before flowering
Function: For individual weak trees, to enhance tree vigor, or in orchards where water and fertilizer are applied in a staggered manner.
Method: Foliar application at the root zone
Fertilizer recommendations: ① To strengthen tree vigor, apply 3–5 kg per mu of Phosphorus‑Potassium Source Depot, followed by a 300‑fold dilution of Haijingling Root‑Applied Bio‑Stimulant; ② For water‑fertilizer management during flowering, use urea combined with a 300‑fold dilution of Haijingling Root‑Applied Bio‑Stimulant.
Precautions: For water‑fertilizer topdressing, a certain level of practical experience is required, and the application of nitrogen fertilizer prior to flowering carries inherent risks.
Fruit-expanding fertilizer
Timing: Apply during the young fruit enlargement stage, when the fruits are about the size of mung beans, and at the latest by the time they reach soybean size.
Function: Provides essential nutrients to support berry enlargement, shoot and leaf growth, promotes rapid grape berry expansion, strengthens tree vigor, and reduces physiological disorders caused by weak tree health in the later stages.
Method: shallow trench application or foliar spray
Fertilizer selection: Use a high-nitrogen compound fertilizer at 40–60 kg, combined with a root-applied solution of Haijingling bio‑stimulant diluted 300 times, and apply calcium fertilizer 1–2 times.
Precautions: ① Apply nitrogen fertilizer at an appropriate rate based on orchard conditions to prevent excessive vegetative growth and maintain fruit quality; ② Ensure that calcium fertilizer is applied separately from phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.
Color-changing fertilizer
Period: Before fruit softening and the onset of color change
Function: Promotes sugar accumulation and coloration in grapes.
Method: shallow trench application or foliar spray
Fertilizer selection: Phosphorus–potassium source, 5–10 kg of high-phosphorus, high-potassium water-soluble fertilizer, or 20–40 kg of high-potassium compound fertilizer.
Notes: When applying potassium fertilizer—whether it’s a compound fertilizer, a water-soluble fertilizer, or another type—choose based on the specific conditions of your garden.
Postharvest fertilizer
Period: After grape harvest
Function: Restores tree vigor, promotes flower bud differentiation and root growth, and lays the foundation for a bountiful harvest in the following year.
Method: Foliar application at the root zone
Fertilizer selection: 25–30 kg of high-nitrogen compound fertilizer, or 5–10 kg of high-nitrogen water-soluble fertilizer plus a 300-fold dilution of Haijingling bio-stimulant for root application.
Notes: For vineyards with vigorous growth or where harvest is delayed, this treatment may be omitted.
Foliar topdressing
From germination to before flowering: Focus on foliar application of nitrogen fertilizer, primarily to promote leaf and new shoot growth.
You may apply a 0.3% urea solution combined with a 0.3% phosphorus–potassium source to promote shoot growth and protect foliage. Seven days before flowering, foliar spray once with a boron–zinc fertilizer plus Haixingling bio‑stimulant (foliar formulation) diluted at 800 times to enhance fruit set.
Flowering and Fruit Set Stage: During this stage, foliar fertilization is primarily aimed at promoting grape flowering and enhancing fruit set.
Apply Sea Elf Bio-Stimulant (foliar type) at an 800-fold dilution once during the flowering period and again after flowering.
After fruit set and before leaf fall: During this stage, foliar fertilization is primarily aimed at promoting fruit growth and development, enhancing fruit coloration and sugar content, boosting photosynthesis and flower bud differentiation, and improving the plant’s stress resistance.
Spray with a 800‑fold dilution of Haijingling foliar bio‑stimulant plus 0.3% boron fertilizer to promote fruit development, prevent fruit cracking, and increase fruit sugar content. Starting in early August, apply a 600–800‑fold dilution of Phosphorus‑Potassium Source Library every 15 days to enhance fruit coloration and flower‑bud differentiation, boost photosynthesis, and extend leaf lifespan.
After fruit harvest: During this stage, foliar fertilization is primarily aimed at strengthening tree vigor, increasing chlorophyll content in the leaves, enhancing photosynthetic capacity, and preventing premature leaf fall.
