In 2024, the registration for the Huai’an Gorgon Fruit–themed leg of the 10th “Extraordinary Agricultural Products” China Champions Challenge has officially kicked off. This precious ingredient—known as one of the “Eight Immortals of the Water,” and also called “chicken-head rice”—is drawing increasing attention with its unique charm.

In the previous national finals, television stations from six provinces joined forces to promote Euryale ferox, successfully raising its profile nationwide. Amid the eager anticipation of all distributors and farmers, Cui Xiangyong, Manager of the Marketing Department at Nongda Group, took to the stage to announce the evaluation criteria for the Euryale ferox selection contest. The rules cover multiple aspects, including fruit quality, yield, and cultivation techniques, with the aim of providing a comprehensive and objective assessment of each participant’s efforts and achievements. As the kickoff meeting progressed, the atmosphere on site grew increasingly energized. Chen Yonghao, a senior agronomist at the Key Laboratory of Humic Acid Fertilizers of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, delivered an insightful lecture on high‑quality cultivation and fertilization management techniques for Euryale ferox, from which the farmers greatly benefited. Mr. Zhu, a seasoned veteran in Euryale ferox cultivation, also shared his practical experience and technical insights, earning warm applause from the audience.

As the conference drew to a close, Gao Kai, manager of the Northern Jiangsu Branch of Nongda Group, announced a series of farmer‑friendly policies, bringing greater benefits and renewed motivation to water chestnut growers.

With the announcement of favorable agricultural policies, farmers flocked to the order‑placement area, and the total orders at this conference reached 1,000 tons.
