General Manager Huang admitted, “I really should have vigorously promoted Nongda fertilizers in Lingshan years ago!”

From May to July each year, Lingshan County in Qinzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, enters its “sweet season” of lychee harvest. Known as the “Home of Lychees in China,” Lingshan has earned widespread acclaim for its diverse varieties and exceptional flavor. In 2023, the county’s total lychee planting area spanned approximately 419,300 mu, with a combined output of 183,600 tons.
However, the unusual weather at the beginning of 2024—particularly two sudden hailstorms—severely impacted the fruit set of lychees in Lingshan County. Such extreme weather poses a significant challenge to growers’ cultivation and management practices; at the same time, it has created opportunities for lychee trees and orchards that have been treated with humic acid fertilizers to demonstrate their resilience and potential.
During this “Remarkable Agricultural Products 2024: Nongda Humic Acid Quality Tour of China” event, we visited the region managed by Huang Yongqin, General Manager of LingShan Yuanjian Agricultural Inputs Co., Ltd. As an agent for Nongda Group in LingShan County, Mr. Huang has been in the agricultural inputs industry for more than thirty years and maintains a meticulous approach to selecting fertilizers. Over the past two-plus years of collaboration with Nongda Fertilizer, he has personally witnessed the remarkable benefits that Nongda’s fertilizers have brought to LingShan lychees. “I really should have promoted Nongda fertilizers much more vigorously in LingShan years ago!” Mr. Huang admitted.
General Manager Huang led us into the core demonstration zone for lychees in Mada Village, Wenli Town, Lingshan County, allowing us to experience firsthand the charm of Lingshan lychees.
Here, we met Luo Changyuan, a “new farmer” with more than thirty years of experience in lychee cultivation. Brother Luo continuously innovates his orchard’s management and operational approaches, striving for excellence in every aspect of planting and tirelessly seeking the most suitable fertilizers and cultivation strategies. Ultimately, he adopted Shandong Agricultural University Group’s tailored quality‑enhancement and yield‑boosting solution—“high‑tower compound fertilizer plus one topdressing of three organic fertilizers”—which has helped stabilize his orchard’s fertilization and management practices.
In terms of management, Brother Luo’s lychee orchard is also remarkably well‑thought‑out. The scattered lights dotting the mountainside are not for decoration; rather, they cleverly exploit the light‑avoidance behavior of the lychee stem borer, a major pest, to help control it. During the 40 days leading up to harvest, these lights effectively reduce the pest’s activity, mating, and egg‑laying, thereby significantly cutting down on pesticide use and ensuring that Lingshan lychees are safe, healthy, and of exceptional quality.
At the “Quality China” event held in Lingshan, we specially invited Chen Yanyan, a senior agronomist from the Lingshan County Agricultural Science Institute. Ms. Chen conducted on-site sugar‑content tests on lychees. Even amid this year’s exceptionally abundant rainfall, the lychees from Brother Luo’s orchard still boasted a remarkable sugar level of 20° Brix! In addition, Ms. Chen demonstrated how to select high‑quality lychees at the market.
Tan Paibin, Business Manager at Nongda Group, shared with both on-site and livestream viewers the fertilizer application plan specially tailored by Nongda Group for Lingshan lychees.
“Quality is the shared goal of growers and Nongda Group,” emphasized Liu Yongqiang, Director of Nongda Group’s South China Region. “This event marks the inaugural stop of the 2024 ‘Quality China’ tour and also the 11th installment of the initiative in the South China region. Over the years, Nongda Group has conducted in-depth research across South China, focusing on cash crops—particularly fruit trees—and has developed tailored management strategies and fertilizer packages for different crops and growers. Through the ‘Quality China’ program, Nongda Group aims to share best practices and valuable experience from leading farmers with a wider audience, helping more farmlands and orchards elevate the quality of their agricultural products and truly deliver ‘exceptional farm produce.’”
