Technology leads to product excellence: Nongda Fertilizer Industry has been awarded the National Invention Award.

On June 24, the National Science and Technology Awards Conference was solemnly held in Beijing. Party and state leaders, including Xi Jinping and Li Qiang, presented awards to the recipients of the National Science and Technology Awards, and General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered an important address.
The achievement “Development and Application of Green Bio-based Coated Controlled-release Fertilizers,” jointly submitted by Shandong Nongda Fertilizer Technology Co., Ltd. and Shandong Agricultural University, among other institutions, has been awarded the Second Prize of the 2023 National Invention Award. Addressing key challenges in traditional coated‑material modification—such as performance enhancement, quality improvement, efficiency gains, and safety and environmental sustainability—the project aligns with the nation’s major Rural Revitalization Strategy. After more than a decade of collaborative R&D, it pioneered the use of green, bio‑based, biodegradable coating materials, refined and upgraded coating processes, and successfully applied these advances to new products including coated urea, coated potassium chloride, and coated compound fertilizers. This has resulted in improved coating performance, synergistic nutrient release, and reduced application rates with enhanced efficacy. The widespread adoption of this innovation is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing high‑quality ecological agriculture in China.
Nongda Fertilizer is one of the earliest domestic enterprises to industrialize coated‑controlled‑release fertilizers, and its coating technology has undergone four major upgrades. Over its 22 years of operation, the company has consistently focused on integrated research and development in cutting-edge green fertilizers, soil improvement, and agricultural big data, driving innovation across a range of eco‑friendly fertilizer products.
